Here's something I hear almost every week: men who are more nervous about the consultation than the actual procedure.

That surprises people when I say it out loud. But it makes sense once you think about it. The procedure itself is something they've read about, maybe watched a video on, maybe already made peace with. The consult is the unknown part. It's the first time they're sitting in front of a doctor talking about this out loud, and most men have no idea what to expect.

So let's fix that.

It's a Conversation, Not a Test

The biggest misconception is that the consult is some kind of test you can fail, or a rushed five minutes before you get scheduled for surgery. It's neither.

A real consultation is just a conversation. I'm going over your medical history, asking why you're considering this, and making sure you understand what you're signing up for. That's it. Nobody is judging your reasons. Nobody is trying to talk you into or out of anything.
